Alappuzha, April 6
Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a roadshow in Haripad constituency of Alappuzha district on Monday, campaigning for NDA candidate Sandeep Vachaspati days before the April 9 Kerala Assembly bypoll. Hundreds of NDA workers carrying BJP flags and wearing party headgear took part in the procession. Supporters raised slogans and waved cut-outs of Shah and Vachaspati as the rally moved through the town. The roadshow started from Gandhi Square and covered key areas of Haripad. Rain did not deter the crowd, which remained energetic through the event.
Shah greeted supporters along the route while party workers cheered for the NDA candidate. The roadshow drew significant attention in the coastal constituency as campaigning entered its final phase before polling day.
The Haripad seat is locked in a three-cornered contest. Congress has renominated sitting MLA and senior leader Ramesh Chennithala. The ruling Left Democratic Front has fielded CPI candidate T T Jismon. The NDA is contesting with Sandeep Vachaspati.
With April 9 polling fast approaching, Monday’s roadshow marked one of the last major campaign events in Haripad, where all three political formations are pushing hard for voter support in the closing hours of the campaign.
