Chandigarh, October 8

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is leading in the Ladwa constituency with 54,660 votes, while Congress leader and former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has garnered 88,765 votes in Garhi Sampla-Kiloi. Meanwhile, BJP leader Anil Vij is trailing in Ambala Cantt.

Overall, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) appears set to make history by winning the Haryana assembly elections for the third consecutive time, according to early polling trends from the Election Commission of India. The BJP is currently leading in 51 seats, while Congress is ahead in 34. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) is leading in 1 seat, with the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and independents ahead in 1 and 3 seats, respectively.

The significant campaign efforts from political parties have encouraged voters to head to the polls in rural areas. Voter turnout for the elections held on October 8 has reached 67.9% across the 90 assembly constituencies, reflecting an increase from the 64.8% turnout in the last Lok Sabha elections. The current turnout is close to the 68.3% recorded in the 2019 assembly elections. While rural voters have demonstrated considerable engagement, urban apathy continues to affect overall turnout, with many urban constituencies reporting rates that are 10% below the state average.
