Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said that the battle against Left-Wing Extremists (LWEs) is nearing its conclusion, pledging that the government aims to eliminate this threat by March 2026. During a security and development review meeting with Chief Ministers of eight Naxal-affected states, he said that since January, 194 Naxalites have been killed, 801 arrested, and 742 surrendered.
Shah urged youth involved in Naxalism to abandon violence and reintegrate into society. He outlined that under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, ₹1,180 crore was spent from 2004 to 2014, while from 2014 to 2024, expenditure rose to ₹3,006 crore. Additionally, ₹3,590 crore has been allocated under the Special Central Assistance Scheme in the past decade.
He noted significant infrastructure improvements, stating that the road network has expanded from 2,090 km to 11,500 km over the last ten years, and 15,300 mobile towers have been installed, with 5,139 now providing 4G services. The meeting also included discussions with senior officials from various ministries and security forces.
