The Kangra police seized 261 grams of charas and 3.11 grams of heroin in two separate cases during checks on Tuesday night, registering cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against the accused, according to Superintendent of Police Kulbhushan Verma.

In the first case, the police in Nagrota recovered 261 grams of charas from a person who was arrested under Section 20 of the NDPS Act, Verma said.

In a separate case, the McLeodganj police intercepted Manish Kapoor, a resident of Harchakian in Kangra district, near Dengl Mor during checking. A search led to the recovery of 3.11 grams of heroin from his possession. A case was registered against him under Section 21 of the NDPS Act.

Verma said the police were investigating the source of the seized substances and examining possible links in the alleged supply networks. He added that action against drug trafficking was being intensified in accordance with the state government’s directions.

The SP said the police were also monitoring individuals allegedly involved in repeat drug trafficking offences, including those who return to such activities after securing bail. Preventive measures, including detention where applicable under the law, were being taken against repeat offenders, he said.

Verma further said investigations into drug cases had revealed links extending beyond Himachal Pradesh. In particular, some suspects connected with Punjab had emerged during inquiries into heroin supply cases, he said.

The police were working to identify the sources of narcotics and establish the roles of those allegedly involved in the supply chain. Verma said the campaign against drug trafficking would continue.
