Haryana Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa on Monday highlighted Maharishi Valmiki’s teachings on equality, humanity, and social harmony, calling them essential to building an inclusive, values-based society.
Addressing a district-level Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti programme at the Mini Secretariat auditorium in Hisar, Gangwa said the Ramayana conveyed lessons on ideal living, family relationships, duty and mutual respect. He urged people to rise above caste and class divisions and follow the sage’s ideals.
Gangwa, who holds the Public Works and Public Health Engineering portfolios, said the Haryana government, under Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, was committed to spreading the teachings of great personalities and ensuring that welfare schemes reached eligible beneficiaries.
He said the government had introduced classification within Scheduled Caste reservations to recognise the contributions of these communities and provide disadvantaged sections with equal opportunities. He also highlighted the formation of the Haryana State Commission for Scheduled Castes and the Haryana State Safai Karamchari Welfare Commission to protect rights and promote the welfare of sanitation workers.
The minister said the government was working to empower disadvantaged communities through education, employment and financial assistance. He added that the government had reserved a quota for deprived Scheduled Caste candidates in direct recruitment to government services to improve their employment opportunities.
Nalwa MLA Randhir Panihar said Maharishi Valmiki’s teachings encouraged brotherhood, harmony and mutual respect. He said social and economic progress would depend on equal opportunities and access to government welfare schemes.
Panihar also said the government provided financial assistance of up to Rs 71,000 for the marriages of daughters from poor Scheduled Caste families.
Joint Director of the Excise and Taxation Department Krishna Kumar explained the relevance of Valmiki’s writings and teachings in the present context.
The programme was attended by social worker Jagdish Jindal, Additional Deputy Commissioner Shalini Chetal, BDC chairperson Ajay Gawar, City Magistrate Rohit Kumar, District Development and Panchayat Officer Narendra Kumar, State Secretary of the Safai Karamchari organisation Rakesh Kumar and other prominent citizens.
