The Haryana Government is considering invoking Section 108 of the Electricity Act, 2003, to address a three-day strike by electricity employees opposing the grant of power distribution licences to a private company in Gurugram and Nuh, Energy Minister Anil Vij said on Friday.
The proposed move could have implications for the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision to allow the company to distribute electricity in the two districts. Employees have launched the strike, alleging that the move threatens public-sector power distribution utilities.
Consumers in several areas began facing difficulties on the first day of the strike, according to the information provided.
Vij said the government was scheduled to meet representatives of the striking employees at 3 pm on Friday to discuss the issue.
The proposed intervention could pave the way for an early resolution of the dispute and an end to the strike.
