Ayodhya, July 6
The trust overseeing the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on Monday accepted the resignations of its General Secretary, Champat Rai, and trustee Dr Anil Mishra following a high-level meeting held on Monday amid allegations of embezzlement of donations. The trust also appointed Krishna Mohan as its interim General Secretary.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which lasted for more than three hours inside the Ram Janmabhoomi complex. According to sources, seven of the trust’s nine permanent members, including chairman Nritya Gopal Das, attended the meeting. Rai and Mishra were not present.
The meeting began at around 3:15 pm and ended shortly after 6:30 pm. Trust members left the venue without making an immediate public announcement, while journalists gathered outside waited for confirmation of the decisions.
According to sources, the trust reviewed the resignations alongside the progress of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into allegations that donations made to the Ram temple had been misappropriated. Members also discussed filling key administrative positions following the leadership changes.
Krishna Mohan was appointed interim General Secretary to oversee the trust’s day-to-day functioning until a permanent appointment is made.
Security around the Ram temple complex was stepped up ahead of the meeting, with additional police personnel deployed on roads leading to the site. The venue was shifted from Mani Ram Das Chhawani to a guest house within the temple complex, with officials citing security considerations.
