Shimla, June 5
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Thursday issued a strong warning to drug traffickers, stating that the state government would not spare those involved in the illegal narcotics trade and would continue its crackdown on the drug menace, particularly chitta.
Speaking at the concluding ceremony of the “Mini Marathon: Run for a Clean Environment and a Chitta-Free Life” organized at Shimla’s historic Ridge Ground on the occasion of World Environment Day, Sukhu said the government was taking stringent action against drug peddlers and dismantling networks involved in narcotics trafficking.
The Chief Minister said those responsible for destroying the future of the youth through drugs should abandon such activities immediately. He warned that the government would continue to act firmly against offenders and was also targeting properties allegedly acquired through proceeds of drug trafficking.
Responding to concerns about tensions over the alleged Khalsa Tax issue along the Punjab-Himachal Pradesh border, Sukhu said the government was closely monitoring the situation and gathering feedback. He added that he would discuss the matter with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, reiterating that the state government was committed to maintaining peace across Himachal Pradesh.
When asked about the resignation of Himachal Pradesh Congress Vice President Neeraj Bharti, the Chief Minister declined to comment, saying the issue did not warrant a response.
Sukhu also accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of spreading misinformation regarding recent local body and panchayat election results. He claimed that while the BJP was projecting success on social media platforms, Congress had performed strongly in municipal council and nagar panchayat elections.
The Chief Minister alleged that misleading narratives were circulating online and maintained that the Congress had secured significant support in the local elections.
