Manali , August 1
Two people were killed and three others injured after a sports utility vehicle (SUV) plunged nearly 20 feet into the Manalsu stream near the Club House area in Old Manali on Saturday, police said.
According to police, the black Maruti Jimny (HP26A-0011) was traveling from Vashisht towards Manali when the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and fall into the stream.
A police team from Manali Police Station rushed to the spot immediately after receiving information and launched rescue and relief operations.
The deceased have been identified as Rohit Kumar (32), a resident of Mandi district who was driving the vehicle, and Karun Baudh (35), a resident of Bajaura in Kullu district. Both sustained critical injuries in the accident and were taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
The three other occupants—Vivek (30), Naresh Kumar (28), and Urmila (22)—sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment after medical examination.
Police said the bodies of the deceased have been kept at the mortuary in Manali for post-mortem examination. The post-mortem will be conducted after the arrival of their family members, in accordance with legal procedures.
An FIR (No. 112/2026) has been registered at Manali Police Station under Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Preliminary investigation suggests that the accident occurred due to negligent driving and the driver losing control of the vehicle. Further investigation is in progress.
