Kangra, August 01

With a steady flow of tourists to popular destinations in the Kangra Valley during the monsoon season, the district tourism department has urged visitors to remain cautious due to the increased risk of heavy rainfall and landslides. Hotel operators have also been asked to strictly follow safety guidelines issued by the government. District Tourism Officer Vinay Dhiman said tourist spots, including McLeod Ganj, Dharamkot, Palampur, and Bir, are witnessing a significant number of visitors despite the monsoon. Although tourist arrivals are lower than in June, footfall this season is better than in previous years.

Dhiman advised tourists to avoid visiting rivers, streams, vulnerable valleys and landslide-prone areas during bad weather. He said visitors should check weather updates before travelling to such locations to prevent any untoward incidents. Emphasizing environmental protection, he appealed to tourists not to litter at natural sites and carry back plastic and other waste to help preserve the environment and water resources. The tourism officer said monsoon-related safety guidelines issued by the government have already been shared with hotel operators through hotel associations. A meeting with hotel owners will also be organized soon to ensure they inform guests about safety measures and compliance with the rules.
