Shimla, June 5
A mini-marathon aimed at raising awareness of drug abuse and promoting environmental conservation was organized in Shimla on the occasion of World Environment Day. The Anti-Chitta and Clean Environment Awareness Mini Marathon was jointly organized by the Department of Environment, Science, Technology and Climate Change, Himachal Pradesh Police, and the Directorate of Census Operations. Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla flagged off the event and encouraged citizens to support the twin causes of a drug-free society and environmental protection.
Addressing participants, the Governor said that drug abuse, particularly the menace of chitta, is weakening society from within and requires collective action to combat. He stressed that the fight against drugs is not solely the responsibility of the government or police but of society as a whole. He urged young people to stay away from narcotics and adopt a healthy lifestyle.
Highlighting the importance of environmental conservation, the Governor said rivers, forests, and mountains are the foundation of life and must be protected for future generations. He called upon citizens to actively participate in safeguarding natural resources and maintaining ecological balance.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, youth, and members of the public, sending a strong message on the need for both environmental responsibility and a drug-free future.
