Shimla, June 2

BJP State Chief Spokesperson and MLA Rakesh Jamwal on Sunday said the results of the Panchayati Raj Institutions and Urban Local Body elections in Himachal Pradesh reflect growing public dissatisfaction with the Congress government and rising support for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Addressing the media in Shimla, Jamwal alleged that Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu was attempting to mislead the people after the election results and claimed that his recent remarks were driven by political frustration.

He said the BJP had contested the local body elections seriously and senior party leaders actively participated in the democratic process by casting their votes in their respective constituencies.

Jamwal said repeated attacks on the BJP leadership were inappropriate for a Chief Minister and asserted that the people of Himachal Pradesh have consistently shown faith in the BJP’s leadership, organizational strength, and development agenda.

Referring to the election outcome, he said the BJP secured a decisive mandate by winning three of the state’s four Municipal Corporations. He claimed that the party won 12 of the 14 seats in the Mandi Municipal Corporation and secured clear majorities in the Dharamshala and Solan Municipal Corporations.

He further stated that the BJP performed strongly in the Zila Parishad elections and won significantly more seats than the Congress. According to Jamwal, the results indicate that people are moving away from what he described as “empty promises” and are instead supporting governance based on performance.

Taking a swipe at the ruling party, Jamwal said the internal situation within the Congress government had already become evident after several legislators distanced themselves from the party following the formation of the government.

Calling the local body and Panchayati Raj elections the “semi-final” of Himachal Pradesh politics, Jamwal expressed confidence that the BJP would form a full-majority government in the 2027 Assembly elections.

He also thanked the people of Himachal Pradesh, BJP leadership, and party workers for their support and contribution during the elections.
