Dharamshala, May 27

The first phase of Panchayati Raj Institution elections concluded peacefully in Kangra district on Tuesday, with election results declared for 286 out of 287 panchayats. The results for Bara Bhangal will be announced on May 31 after the ballot boxes are brought to Bir for counting.

Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said the counting process for ward members, panchayat presidents, and vice-presidents has been completed successfully across the district. He added that only minor objections were reported from a few areas during polling, and no major untoward incidents occurred.

According to the district administration, police acted promptly wherever tensions surfaced, ensuring the election process remained peaceful and orderly. Officials described the first phase of polling as smooth and well-managed.

The administration has now shifted its focus to the remaining two phases of the elections, with efforts to encourage greater voter participation across the district.
