The Modi government will hold a crucial meeting of the council of ministers on Thursday to review the performance of ministries, recent policy decisions, and future governance priorities. This will be the first meeting of the council of ministers this year, amidst speculation of a cabinet reshuffle.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair the meeting, which will include cabinet ministers, ministers of state with independent charge, and other ministers of state. Officials said discussions are expected to focus on the functioning of ministries, implementation of government schemes, and strategies to improve delivery for citizens.

The meeting will be the first such gathering of the year and comes amid growing speculation over a possible cabinet reshuffle.

Sources said the government may also review the economic impact of the ongoing West Asia crisis, particularly on sectors such as energy, agriculture, fertilisers, aviation, shipping, and logistics. Ministries could receive fresh directions to minimise inconvenience for the public and maintain supply stability.

The discussions are also likely to highlight the government’s long-term reform agenda. Modi has previously stressed that reforms introduced by his administration have led to major systemic changes and improved benefits for ordinary citizens.

The timing of the meeting carries political significance as it follows the Bharatiya Janata Party’s strong performance in recent Assembly elections in West Bengal and Assam, along with the return of an NDA government in Puducherry.

Government sources said the session is expected to combine policy review, governance planning, and political messaging as the administration prepares for upcoming challenges.
