Bhopal, May 20

Bhopal Police Commissioner Sanjay Kumar on Wednesday said the police have no objection to conducting a second post-mortem of Twisha Sharma, the 33-year-old woman who was found hanging at her marital home in the Katara Hills area of Bhopal earlier this month.

The statement came after Twisha’s family approached the court seeking permission for a fresh autopsy at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Delhi. The family has alleged lapses in the investigation and claimed that several injury marks on Twisha’s body were not reflected in the initial post-mortem report.

Speaking on the matter, Commissioner Kumar said the family’s application had been attached to the case diary and forwarded to the court. He stated that the final decision regarding a second autopsy rests with the judiciary.

Police have already registered a case of dowry death and harassment against Twisha’s husband, advocate Samarth Singh, and her mother-in-law, Giribala Singh. Officials said teams have been formed to trace and arrest Samarth Singh, who remains absconding.

According to the plea filed by the family, the FIR in the case was registered three days after Twisha was found dead on May 12. The application also raised concerns that investigators allegedly failed to provide the ligature material during the first post-mortem examination.

Advocate Ankur Pandey, representing the family, said they had specifically requested that the second post-mortem be conducted at AIIMS Delhi to ensure transparency and public confidence in the investigation.

The family has also expressed concerns about the possibility of local influence affecting the process if another examination is conducted in Bhopal. They have maintained that an independent medical review would help establish the truth and remove doubts surrounding the case.

In a statement issued earlier, Twisha’s family said a fair and scientific investigation was essential in a case where the deceased could no longer speak for herself. They added that an independent examination would strengthen faith in the justice system.

A Special Investigation Team is currently probing allegations related to dowry harassment, physical assault, and destruction of evidence in connection with the case.
