New Delhi, May 17
Compressed Natural Gas prices were increased by Re 1 per kilogram on Sunday, marking the second hike within a week amid rising input gas costs and appreciation of the US dollar.
Following the latest revision, CNG in Delhi will now cost Rs 80.09 per kilogram, according to Indraprastha Gas Ltd, the country’s largest city gas distribution company. The increase comes days after CNG rates were raised by Rs 2 per kilogram on Thursday.
The company said the revised prices came into effect from 6 am across all geographical areas operated by IGL. However, the rate of piped natural gas supplied to domestic kitchens remains unchanged. In a statement, IGL said the latest increase was introduced to partly offset the impact of higher input gas costs and the sharp rise in the US dollar.
Despite the revision, the company maintained that CNG remains a cost-effective fuel option and offers savings of up to 45 per cent in vehicle running costs compared to other conventional fuels at current price levels. The latest hike is expected to affect daily commuters and commercial vehicle operators who rely on CNG across the national capital region.
