Shimla, May 11
Six tourists from Gujarat were killed, and four others sustained serious injuries after a vehicle plunged into a deep gorge near Kakira in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district in the early hours of Monday, police said. According to officials, the tourists were travelling in a Toyota Innova from Manali to Dalhousie when the accident occurred. The vehicle was carrying 10 passengers at the time of the mishap.
Police said the impact of the fall was severe, and parts of the vehicle were found scattered around the accident site. Rescue teams and local authorities faced difficulty evacuating the injured due to the terrain and the vehicle’s damaged condition. The injured were later shifted to a zonal hospital for treatment.
Officials said the exact cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. However, injured passengers reportedly told authorities that the driver lost control of the vehicle while taking a sharp turn.
Meanwhile, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu shared a post on Facebook expressing sorrow over the tragedy and extending condolences to the bereaved families. In his post, Sukhu wrote, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the death of six people and injury of four others in a car accident near Kakira in Chamba district.
