42-km Marathon to Boost Adventure Tourism in Manali

The Hotelier Association Manali will organise the Himalayan Manali Marathon on October 11 to promote adventure tourism, fitness and sports activities in the hill town, with support from the Tourism Department and local administration.

The event will feature multiple race categories, including a 42-km full marathon, 22-km half marathon and 10-km run. A separate race will also be organized for children to encourage interest in running, sports and fitness from an early age.

Hotelier Association Manali General Secretary Gaurav Thakur announced the event at a press conference on Thursday. He said the initiative aims to position Manali as a major destination for adventure sports and fitness activities, alongside its established tourism identity.

Thakur said Manali is already known nationally and internationally for its natural beauty and adventure activities. The marathon, he added, aims to further promote the town through adventure sports and fitness tourism.

Registration for the marathon will be free, which the organizers expect will encourage more young people and fitness enthusiasts to participate.

The association said various local organizations are also supporting the event. It aims to make the marathon more than a sporting event by presenting Manali as a destination combining fitness, adventure and tourism.

Hotelier Association president Roshan Thakur, vice-president Manchand Thakur, joint secretary Chaman Thakur, Desh Raj, former president Gajendra Thakur and Tek Chand Thakur were also present at the press conference.
