Governor stresses Himalayan conservation; Indresh calls for global peace

Dharamshala, September 12

Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta on Saturday stressed the need to protect the Himalayan ecosystem, warning that climate change and global warming could pose serious threats and that tampering with the fragile Himalayan environment could turn water sources into disaster triggers.

Addressing a program organized by the Himalaya Parivar in Dharamshala, Gupta said protecting the Himalayan region’s biodiversity, environment and water sources was essential for future generations.

He said the conservation efforts undertaken by the Himalaya Parivar should reach every household and become a mass movement. Gupta said while the government could create departments and organizations for environmental protection, conservation was not possible without active public participation.

On the increasing traffic pressure in hill areas, Gupta said development and environmental protection must go together. He emphasized the need for greater public involvement in protecting the fragile Himalayan ecosystem.

Senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar said the program aimed to create awareness about the importance of the Himalayas. He described the region as a major source of water, a center of biodiversity and an important spiritual center.

Kumar said unbalanced development was increasing pollution and the risk of natural disasters. He stressed the need to balance development with environmental conservation.

On the BRICS Summit, Gupta said India believes in the principles of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’, and wants countries to move forward through mutual cooperation and harmony.

Kumar said the world needs peace and coexistence rather than hatred and war. He said India’s message was “Yudh Nahin, Buddh Chahiye” (Not war, but Buddha).

He expressed hope that BRICS would work to reduce violence, tensions, crime, and conflict while promoting global prosperity and encouraging efforts to curb corruption and crime.
