Chandigarh, April 23
The Punjab government on Thursday directed officials to compile a comprehensive list of pending welfare cases concerning former soldiers and their families. Sharing details, Defence Services Welfare Minister Mohinder Bhagat said that the move is aimed at ensuring faster and more transparent handling of long-pending issues. He instructed officials to clearly document the status of each case, warning that delays or negligence would not be tolerated.
The directive comes as part of broader efforts by the administration led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to strengthen support systems for ex-servicemen. Bhagat said the government remains committed to addressing the concerns of veterans and their families, adding that recruitment to departmental vacancies and budget-related processes are also being prioritised.
He emphasised that the state holds deep respect for those who have served in the armed forces, and that improving welfare mechanisms is a key responsibility of the government. Officials are now expected to streamline pending cases and ensure quicker delivery of benefits, as part of a push to make the system more efficient and accountable.
