A 35-year-old Indian national was arrested in Sri Lanka on Tuesday for allegedly carrying more than one kilogram of narcotics at the Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayaka, police said.
The individual was intercepted during routine checks at the airport and found in possession of a consignment of ‘Kush’ narcotics weighing over one kilogram. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the accused. “The suspect was taken into custody during a joint operation carried out by officers of Sri Lanka Customs and the Police Narcotics Bureau,” police said.
Officials confirmed that the arrested person is an Indian national and added that the operation was conducted as part of coordinated efforts to curb drug trafficking through international transit points. The Police Narcotics Bureau is continuing its investigation to determine the source and intended destination of the narcotics.
