PM urges public to adopt nine pledges on health, environment and service

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on people to adopt nine pledges focused on health, environmental protection and community service, saying collective action can accelerate progress towards a developed India. Speaking at an event in Mandya, the prime minister highlighted priorities, including water conservation, tree plantation, cleanliness, support for local products, and the promotion of domestic tourism. He also encouraged natural farming, healthier diets with millets and reduced oil use, along with yoga, fitness and social service.

“If we move forward with honesty and determination on these resolutions, we can rapidly progress,” he said.

Modi was addressing a gathering during the inauguration of a memorial dedicated to seer Sri Balagangadharanatha Mahaswami at the Adichunchanagiri monastery. Prime Minister Modi praised the institution’s long spiritual legacy and its role in education and healthcare, particularly for rural and disadvantaged communities. He said spiritual leaders had historically gone beyond religious teaching to address social challenges and guide people through hardship.

The prime minister also released a religious text alongside former prime minister H D Deve Gowda and offered prayers at nearby temples during his visit.
