Nagpur, April 15
President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday urged young doctors to embrace innovation, research and continuous learning, while stressing that compassion and ethical values remain at the core of medical practice. Addressing the second convocation of AIIMS Nagpur, she said curiosity is key to progress in medical science and encouraged graduates to pursue new solutions that enhance patient care. “Curiosity is the foundation of progress. The motivation to discover new solutions in medical science will not only make you an excellent doctor but also provide better opportunities for service,” she said.
The President emphasised that technological advancements cannot replace empathy, honesty and a patient-centred approach. “No matter how advanced technology becomes, it cannot replace compassion, honesty and a patient-centred approach. Always maintain the spirit of compassion,” she said, adding that it defines both a good doctor and a good human being.
Murmu highlighted that doctors carry a unique responsibility to serve society with dedication and sensitivity. She expressed confidence that the graduating students would contribute to achieving the goal of a developed India by 2047.
Referring to government initiatives, she noted that over 43 crore health cards have been issued under Ayushman Bharat, providing coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family. She also mentioned the establishment of more than 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandir facilities to strengthen primary healthcare services.
The President said the medical profession offers a special opportunity to serve humanity and urged graduates to take pride in this responsibility. She added that their contribution will play an important role in improving public health and advancing the nation’s development goals.
