BJP leader Samrat Choudhary has taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar, becoming the first leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party to hold the post in the state. The oath of office and secrecy was administered on Wednesday by Governor Syed Ata Hasnain at a ceremony held at Lok Bhawan. Besides it, Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav were sworn in as members of the Council of Ministers.

Senior figures from the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the BJP and Janata Dal (United), attended the event. Among those present were Union ministers J P Nadda and Chirag Paswan, along with NDA legislators.

The transition follows Nitish Kumar’s resignation on Tuesday, after he dissolved his cabinet. He has since moved to the Rajya Sabha. Choudhary, previously serving as deputy chief minister with charge of the home department, was chosen as the BJP legislative party leader a day earlier.

He joined the BJP in 2017 and rose through the party ranks. His selection was finalised in the presence of senior leaders, including Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who was appointed as the party’s central observer for the leadership transition.
