Droupadi Murmu on Friday emphasised that economic policies should be judged by their real impact on people’s lives rather than just numbers, stating that “behind every statistic lies a human story.”

Addressing a group of Indian Economic Service (IES) officers at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President highlighted the growing importance of economic planning and implementation in public service. She said the officers would play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable growth, controlling inflation, creating jobs, reducing inequality, and navigating a complex economic landscape.

Murmu urged the officers to adopt a people-centric approach, stressing that policies must improve the lives of citizens, particularly the most vulnerable. She also called on them to uphold high standards of integrity and professionalism, noting that trust is the most valuable asset in public service.

In a separate interaction with Central Power Engineering Service (CPES) officers, the President underscored the importance of the power sector in achieving the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat. She said electricity is a key driver of industrial growth, innovation, and overall socio-economic development.

Highlighting India’s commitment to global climate goals, Murmu stressed the need to increase the share of renewable energy in the power mix. She said greater adoption of clean energy would reduce dependence on fossil fuels and help build a more sustainable and environmentally responsible power sector.
