Yadav stressed on justice, equality and cooperation as foundations for lasting peace

Young thinker Sanyam Yadav on Sunday called for collective efforts to build a culture of peace, saying that peace should be understood not simply as the absence of conflict but as an environment based on justice, equality, dignity and mutual respect.

Addressing a World Peace Day programme at the Rotary Club, Sector 18, Chandigarh on Monday, Yadav said peace starts with individuals and extends to families, communities, nations and the world.

Speaking on the theme “Invest in Peace”, he said investment in peace goes beyond financial contributions and involves promoting cooperation, understanding and human welfare. Referring to the teachings of former President Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, Yadav said truth and righteousness in individual conduct were essential for creating a peaceful society.

Yadav also identified ego as a major barrier to peace and urged people to adopt humility, fairness and concern for others in their daily lives.

He called for reforms in the United Nations Security Council and said global attention should also focus on water, energy, food and cyber security.

Yadav further suggested recognising peace as the fourth “P” alongside people, planet and profit. Referring to the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, he said peace should be treated as an ongoing process that requires consistent effort.

“We must not wait for peace; we must build it together every day,” he said.
