At least 19 people have died after a Bengaluru-bound private bus from Hyderabad caught fire following a collision with a two-wheeler in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, officials said on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident and announced financial assistance for the victims’ families.
“Extremely saddened by the loss of lives due to a mishap in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. My thoughts are with the affected people and their families during this difficult time. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the Prime Minister said in a post on X through the official handle of PMO India.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for those injured in the accident. Emergency services were deployed at the site and the injured have been shifted to nearby hospitals. Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.
