Amritsar, October 14

The Punjab Police have busted a cross-border illegal weapon smuggling module with links to Canada and Pakistan, officials said on Monday. Amritsar Rural Police arrested Amarbir Singh, also known as Amar, a resident of Dairiwal in Amritsar district. Officers recovered six pistols, 11 magazines, 91 live cartridges of .30 bore, and 20 live cartridges of 9mm during the operation. “Preliminary investigation indicates that the accused had recently returned from Canada and was in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers,” said Director General of Police, Gaurav Yadav. An FIR has been registered, and police teams are working to identify other operatives, trace forward and backward linkages, and dismantle the entire cross-border network.

The total recovery in the case so far includes nine pistols, 101 live cartridges of .30 bore, and 20 live cartridges of 9mm. The Punjab Police reaffirmed its commitment to combating organised crime and maintaining peace and harmony across the state.
