The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced that the Bihar Assembly elections will be conducted in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with vote counting scheduled for November 14. In a notable procedural change, officials said that ballot boxes will be counted first, followed by the electronic voting machines (EVMs), to enhance transparency in the process, said Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The announcement came after a detailed two-day review of the state’s election preparedness. Chief Election Commissioner along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi, held extensive meetings in Patna with top officials and law enforcement agencies.
The review focused on ensuring robust security arrangements, logistical coordination, and strict enforcement to guarantee free, fair, and inducement-free elections across Bihar. The Commission has also instructed the state administration to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling, especially in sensitive constituencies.
