Amit Shah inaugurates Sabar Dairy plant in Haryana

Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah today inaugurated the Sabar Dairy plant in Rohtak, Haryana, calling it a milestone for the cooperative movement and a boost for farmers’ welfare.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Union Minister of State for Cooperation Krishan Pal Gurjar, and Union Minister Rao Inderjit Singh were among those present at the event. Mr Shah said the plant, built at a cost of about ₹350 crore, is now the country’s largest facility for producing curd, buttermilk and yogurt. It is expected to meet the entire demand for dairy products in Delhi and the National Capital Region. The plant will produce 150 metric tonnes of curd, 10 metric tonnes of yogurt, 3 lakh litres of buttermilk and 10,000 kilograms of sweets daily.

Shah praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for creating a separate Ministry of Cooperation, describing it as a fulfilment of a “decades-old demand of farmers.” He said the ministry, in collaboration with states, had worked over the past four years to strengthen the cooperative sector. He expressed confidence that by 2029, every panchayat in India would have its own cooperative society.

Tracing Sabar Dairy’s origins to Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district, Shah said the cooperative had created opportunities for milk producers across nine states. He noted that in Gujarat alone, cooperative dairies had enabled 35 lakh women to conduct business worth ₹85,000 crore annually.  Shah highlighted advances in breeding technologies such as embryo transfer and sex determination in Gujarat, and urged that similar techniques be introduced in Haryana. He also called for promoting beekeeping, organic farming and biogas projects in the state.
