New Delhi, September 4
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the Union Government’s proposals for wide-ranging reforms and rate rationalisation under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) have been approved by the GST Council. Modi said the move reflects his earlier Independence Day commitment to introduce “next-generation reforms” in GST. The changes aim to ease the cost of living for citizens while strengthening the economy. The reforms include GST rate cuts and simplification of procedures, which the government says will benefit farmers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), the middle class, women and young people. “The wide-ranging reforms will improve lives of our citizens and ensure ease of doing business for all, especially small traders and businesses,” the Prime Minister said.
The GST Council, which brings together the Union and state governments, gave its collective approval to the proposals.
