The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has summoned senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders and former Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain in connection with the alleged ₹2,000-crore classroom construction scam. Jain has been asked to appear on June 6, while Sisodia has been called for questioning on June 9 at the bureau’s Delhi office.
The ACB registered an FIR in the case on April 30, alleging that the construction of 12,748 classrooms and related buildings under the previous AAP administration was carried out at significantly inflated costs. At the time, Sisodia served as Delhi’s Education Minister, and Jain oversaw the Public Works Department (PWD), India Today reported.
While filing the FIR, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) cited “significant deviations and cost escalations” in the Delhi government’s classroom construction project, claiming that not a single work was completed within the stipulated timeframe. According to the agency, consultants and architects were appointed without following due procedure, and cost escalations were implemented through them.
According to media reports, the FIR was registered after receiving sanction under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act from the competent authority, alleges that more than 12,500 classrooms were built at a staggering rate of ₹8,800 per square foot—despite the average cost for residential construction in Delhi being around ₹1,500 per square foot.
The report further stated that each classroom cost approximately ₹24.86 lakh, as per the awarded tender, whereas similar rooms are typically built in Delhi for about ₹5 lakh each. The alleged scam came to light in 2022 after the Vigilance Directorate of the Delhi government recommended a probe. A detailed report was then submitted to the Chief Secretary, highlighting the irregularities during the tenures of then-Education Minister Manish Sisodia and PWD Minister Satyendar Jain. The FIR was officially filed in April 2025, following President Droupadi Murmu’s approval for prosecution in March, NDTV reported.
