Kurukshetra, April 20
A couple and their three-year-old daughter were found dead in an apparent case of suicide in Kurukshetra, police said on Monday.
The incident took place in Prem Nagar Colony, where the family was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside their residence. According to police, the couple was under severe stress due to their daughter’s serious illness.
Police said information about the incident was received at around 6:30 am at the Subhash Mandi police outpost. A team arrived at the scene and found the three hanging. They were brought down immediately and taken for medical examination, where doctors declared them dead.
The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Kumar (30), his wife Manju (28), and their daughter Advika. Jitendra Kumar was employed with the Railway Mail Service.
Jitendra’s father, Mahender Singh, a retired Punjab Police personnel, had died around six months ago. The family is survived by his mother, Bimla Devi. His brother, Prateek, resides in Canada with his family.
Station House Officer Baljeet Singh from Krishna Gate Police Station confirmed that the bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination. A suicide note has been found and is under analysis as the police investigate the incident.
