Jammu, April 25
A six-year-old boy was injured in a landmine explosion in a forward area along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday. The child, identified as Mohammad Rizwan, sustained multiple injuries and was initially taken to a local hospital before being referred to a higher medical facility in Jammu for further treatment.
According to officials, the incident occurred in the Noorkot-Degwar area, located ahead of the border fencing. Rizwan was immediately rushed to a hospital in Poonch, where he received first aid. Due to the nature of his injuries, doctors referred him to the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu for advanced care.
Officials said the boy suffered injuries to multiple parts of his body in the blast. His condition is being monitored by doctors at the Jammu hospital.
Police have taken note of the incident and initiated an investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the explosion.
The incident highlights the continuing risks posed by unexploded ordnance and landmines in forward areas along the LoC, particularly for civilians living in close proximity to the border.
