The Panjab University’s University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) is set to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) laboratory after NBCC (India) Ltd’s board of directors approved Rs 43 lakh for the project. The approval clears the way for the proposed laboratory, which aims to provide students with modern facilities for AI-based education, technical training and research.
According to an official letter issued by NBCC on November 6, 2026, the board approved the funding for setting up the AI laboratory at Panjab University’s information technology department. The letter was addressed to the director of UIET.
The initiative is expected to provide engineering and technology students with opportunities for practical learning and research in artificial intelligence, while strengthening AI-related academic activities at the institute.
