Police register case as video raises allegations of harassment after drug related question

A man from Toor Vanjara village in Sangrur district allegedly died after consuming a poisonous substance, with a video surfacing in which he accused local panchayat representatives of mentally harassing him after he questioned Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Cheema about the drug menace. The Punjab Police have filed an FIR against the sarpanch in the case.

The deceased was identified as Gulzar Singh, who allegedly consumed the substance on Monday. In the video, Singh claimed that Cheema had visited his village a few days earlier and that he had questioned the minister about the drug problem. He also said his son was caught in drug addiction.

According to the allegations made in the video, Singh faced mental harassment from the village sarpanch and panchayat members after the minister’s visit. He was initially taken to Rajindra Hospital in Patiala for treatment and was later shifted to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital in Ludhiana, where he died on Monday.

Finance Minister Harpal Cheema has not yet issued a statement on the allegations. His response will be added to the report as and when it is received.

According to information available, Sangrur Police have registered a case against some individuals including sarpanch and are conducting raids to trace those named in the case.The investigation will establish the circumstances surrounding Singh’s death and examine the allegations made in the video.
