The countdown to India’s much-awaited mythological film “Ramayana” has begun, but the story is far from over. As Part 1 gears up for its grand Diwali 2026 opening, the second instalment has reportedly been pushed to Diwali 2028.

The delay comes with a bigger promise. For producer Namit Malhotra, the film is an emotion, and the second instalment requires additional shooting time to realise its full scale. The legendary “yudh” will take centre stage in the sequel, bringing the epic’s most ambitious spectacle to the big screen.

The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast led by Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. Sai Pallavi will portray Sita, bringing one of Indian mythology’s most revered characters to life. Yash will play the powerful antagonist Ravana, while Sunny Deol is associated with the role of Lord Hanuman. The cast also includes Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Lara Dutta as Kaikeyi, adding further depth to the film’s expansive retelling of the epic.

With Ranbir Kapoor and Yash at the centre of the story, the franchise has generated enormous curiosity. Their clash, set against the forces of dharma and adharma, is expected to be a defining moment in this cinematic retelling. The presence of Sai Pallavi, Sunny Deol, Ravi Dubey and Lara Dutta further strengthens the ensemble and adds to the anticipation.

Recreating an epic of this scale demands time, particularly for its grand battle sequences and larger-than-life world. The makers appear determined to deliver the story on the scale it deserves.

While audiences prepare for the first chapter this Diwali, the sequel’s reported 2028 release would give the team additional time to realise its vision. The delay may test fans’ patience, but it also raises expectations for the war ahead.

Diwali 2026 will open the gates to the epic, but Diwali 2028 could bring its fiercest battle to the big screen.

The battlefield is waiting. The final “yudh” simply needs more time.
