Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday said the teachings of Saint Kabir remain highly relevant today, emphasizing their importance in promoting unity, harmony, and brotherhood amid ongoing social and global challenges.

Speaking at a seminar on the life and teachings of Saint Kabir in Mohali, Saini said Kabir’s strong stand against religious orthodoxy, hypocrisy, and social discrimination in the 15th century continues to inspire society. He said gatherings centered on the teachings of saints go beyond formal discussions and become spiritual congregations that spread positive energy and foster inner peace.

Referring to the current global environment marked by unrest, Saini said Kabir’s philosophy holds even greater significance today. “His teachings serve as a guiding light for humanity and show the path of peace, love, and fraternity,” he said, according to an official statement. Describing Kabir as a true humanist, the chief minister said he opposed caste divisions and all forms of social inequality. He added that the simplicity of Kabir’s message made it accessible to the masses and continues to inspire people across generations.

Saini said the Haryana government has launched the Sant Mahapurush Vichar Samaan Parsar Yojana to spread the teachings of saints across society. He reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive development, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every individual in line with Kabir’s ideals of equality.

He also highlighted welfare schemes such as the Mukhyamantri Teerth Yatra Yojana, under which senior citizens from economically weaker sections are being supported to visit religious destinations. He said a special train was recently flagged off from Ambala to Ayodhya, and more such initiatives are planned. Financial assistance is also being provided for visits to important Sikh shrines under the Swarn Jayanti Guru Darshan Yatra Yojana. In addition, support is being extended through the Swarn Jayanti Sindhu Darshan Yojana and the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra Yojana to facilitate religious travel, he said.

“A truly harmonious and discrimination-free society can only be built by imbibing Kabir’s ideals,” Saini said. The chief minister’s remarks highlight the continued relevance of Kabir’s teachings while underlining the state government’s focus on promoting social harmony and inclusive welfare initiatives.
