Sachin Pilot criticises Centre, AAP over Punjab drug crisis

Congress General Secretary in-charge of Punjab, Sachin Pilot, on Tuesday criticised both the Centre and the AAP government in Punjab over the state’s drug problem and law and order situation. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi after the Congress Working Committee meeting, Pilot questioned the Centre’s record on preventing drugs and illegal weapons from entering India through the border with Pakistan.

He said the central government had been responsible for border security for more than a decade and asked what steps had been taken to stop the flow of narcotics. Pilot also accused the AAP government of failing to tackle the drug problem and law-and-order concerns in Punjab.

He pointed to reports of gang-related violence and shootings, saying those responsible for maintaining public safety should be held accountable.Pilot also questioned the BJP’s record in Punjab, pointing out that the party had previously governed the state in alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal while also holding power at the Centre.

“Did you manage to secure the borders? Did you manage to stop the drugs?” he asked.Referring to a recent university-related incident, Pilot said it should not be treated as an isolated case and called for accountability.
