Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Pathak, who recently switched from the Aam Aadmi Party to the Bharatiya Janata Party, has been booked by the Punjab Police in two separate cases under non bailable sections, according to sources. The details of the charges have not been made public so far.

Pathak is among seven Rajya Sabha members who resigned from the Aam Aadmi Party on April 24 and later joined the BJP. The group includes Raghav Chadha, Harbhajan Singh, Ashok Mittal, Rajendra Gupta, Vikramjit Sahney, and Swati Maliwal. Six of these MPs are from Punjab.

The MPs had cited differences with the party leadership and alleged that the AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal, had moved away from its founding principles and core values. Their decision marked a significant political shift, particularly in Punjab, where the party has held considerable influence.

Following their resignation, Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan accepted their merger with the BJP, bringing down the AAP’s strength in the Upper House to three members.

The registration of the FIRs against Pathak comes amid this backdrop of political realignment. Further information regarding the nature of the cases is awaited.
