The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has filed a supplementary chargesheet running into around 40,000 pages against Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in a drug-money case, claiming to have traced an alleged financial trail worth Rs 736.96 crore.
According to a government spokesperson, the investigation identified Rs 161 crore in unaccounted cash deposits, Rs 141 crore routed through foreign entities and Rs 236 crore in unexplained deposits in companies. The figures form part of the financial trail cited by the investigating agency.
Majithia, who spent nearly seven months in judicial custody, was granted regular bail by the Supreme Court on February 2, 2026. His release on bail does not amount to an acquittal, and the allegations against him remain subject to judicial proceedings.
In the earlier stages of the case, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau registered FIR No. 22 against Majithia under the Prevention of Corruption Act and arrested him before he was sent to judicial custody.
A Mohali court rejected his regular bail plea on August 18, 2025. On August 22, the bureau filed a chargesheet of around 40,000 pages before the court, detailing financial transactions, bank accounts and witness-related material, according to reports.
The Punjab and Haryana High Court subsequently dismissed Majithia’s bail application on December 4, 2025, following which he approached the Supreme Court and secured relief in February 2026.
Majithia has denied the allegations against him. The supplementary chargesheet and the financial figures cited by the Vigilance Bureau represent the investigating agency’s claims, not a judicial finding of guilt.
