Chandigarh, May 6
Punjab witnessed two explosions within hours on Tuesday late night, with blasts reported first in Jalandhar and later near an army cantonment in Amritsar, police said. No injuries have been reported in either incident.
According to police, the second blast occurred in the Khasa area of Amritsar, close to a military installation, around 23:00 local time after residents reported hearing a loud sound.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Suhail Mir Qasim said officers reached the scene shortly after receiving the information. Initial findings suggest that an unidentified individual may have thrown an object towards a boundary wall, triggering the explosion.
Forensic teams and bomb disposal experts were deployed to the site and have collected samples for analysis. Authorities have not yet confirmed the nature of the explosive used.
Superintendent of Police Aditya S Warrier, who also visited the location, said an investigation was under way to determine those responsible.
Police added that army officials inspected the area as part of the response.
The Amritsar explosion came hours after an earlier blast outside the headquarters of the Border Security Force’s Punjab Frontier in Jalandhar at about 20:00 on Tuesday.
Security has been tightened across parts of the state as investigations continue into both incidents.
