Punjab Housing and Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian has ordered an investigation into delays and substandard work on a key road widening project in Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar.
During a surprise inspection on Friday Mundian visited the Airport Road project between Sector 65/66 junction and Sector 66B, where he found work lagging behind schedule and failing to meet quality standards.
Describing the situation as “unacceptable”, he issued on-the-spot instructions to the department’s Principal Secretary to probe the matter and ensure those responsible are held accountable — whether government officials or private contractors.
“Progress on paper does not match what is happening on the ground,” the minister said. “Negligence in public works will not be tolerated under the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann.”
He added that Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, which has seen rapid development with a growing population and business presence near the international airport, is a priority area for urban infrastructure upgrades.
The minister said the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) was making all-out efforts to enhance infrastructure, and he would personally monitor progress in the weeks ahead.
