Punjab Transport Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Tuesday flagged off five new Sup er Integral Volvo coach buses under the state owned Punbus service to improve connectivity between Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and the cities of Jalandhar and Ludhiana.

The initiative aims to provide safe, comfortable, and affordable travel options for international passengers and non-residents.

Addressing the gathering, Cheema said the service would benefit both international travelers and daily passengers. He added that the move would help provide a reliable public transport alternative and support the government’s efforts to improve passenger convenience.

The minister said the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, remains focused on expanding and modernizing public transport infrastructure across the state. He recalled that the airport bus service was first launched in June 2022 to improve direct connectivity between Punjab and Delhi’s international airport.

Cheema also announced that the Transport Department will add 15 Super Integral Coach buses to the Punbus fleet. The first five buses have now been introduced, while the remaining coaches will be deployed in phases to further enhance passenger services.

Highlighting broader transport reforms, the minister said a large scale fleet expansion program is underway across Punjab. A total of 696 new buses are being added to the operations of Punjab Roadways, Punbus, and the Punjab Road Transport Corporation.

According to the government, Punbus will receive 100 ordinary buses, 100 HVAC air conditioned buses, and 10 additional Super Integral Coach buses, while PRTC will be strengthened with 245 ordinary buses under the kilometer scheme.

The expansion is expected to improve the reach, reliability, and quality of public transport services across Punjab while offering better connectivity for residents, business travelers, and the NRI community.
