PM Modi, Rubio discuss defence, trade and Indo-Pacific ties

New Delhi, May 23

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held talks in New Delhi on Saturday, focusing on strengthening cooperation in defence, trade, energy and technology.

The meeting took place shortly after Rubio arrived in the capital following a brief visit to Kolkata, where he visited the Mother House of the Missionaries of Charity founded by Mother Teresa.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the two leaders reviewed progress in the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership and discussed regional and global security issues, including the situation in West Asia.

Rubio also conveyed an invitation from US President Donald Trump for Modi to visit the White House in the near future, US Ambassador Sergio Gor said.

Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s support for peaceful dialogue and diplomacy in resolving international conflicts. He added that India and the United States will continue to work closely on shared global priorities.

During his four-day visit, Rubio is scheduled to meet with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and attend events related to the upcoming Quad Foreign Ministers’ Meeting.
