Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday convened a high-level meeting with secretaries of key ministries to review national preparedness and strengthen inter-ministerial coordination in response to emerging national security challenges. The meeting, attended by the Cabinet Secretary and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, brought together top bureaucrats from critical ministries including Defence, Home Affairs, External Affairs, Health, Power, Telecommunications, and Information and Broadcasting.

In the wake of recent regional escalations, PM Modi called for “seamless coordination” across ministries and agencies to ensure continuity of operations and institutional resilience. He was briefed on each ministry’s readiness plans and reviewed their emergency protocols, stressing the need for clear internal communication and robust civil defence mechanisms.

“Ministries have been instructed to conduct comprehensive reviews of their operations to guarantee fool-proof functioning of essential systems,” a senior official present at the meeting said.

Officials also discussed the need for heightened vigilance against misinformation and fake news, alongside strategies to protect critical infrastructure. Ministries were further directed to stay in close contact with state governments and on-ground institutions to ensure cohesion in response efforts.

A whole-of-government approach was reaffirmed, with ministries outlining specific actions they have initiated in light of current developments. Many have already strengthened their response mechanisms to manage a wide range of contingencies.

Modi urged continuous institutional synergy and emphasized the importance of maintaining national preparedness at all levels. “The government remains fully committed to the safety of citizens and the security of the nation,” he said, according to a statement released after the meeting.
