PM Modi calls for productive Monsoon Session

New Delhi, July 20

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday called for a “productive” monsoon session of Parliament, saying he hoped it would match the season’s rains by benefiting the country. “We pray that the monsoon remains proactive, and the monsoon session also remains productive,” Modi said while addressing reporters ahead of the start of the session.

The prime minister highlighted what he described as a series of significant achievements in science, technology and infrastructure over the past month, saying they reflected India’s growing global standing. He praised the country’s expanding space sector, referring to recent milestones by private space companies and saying young entrepreneurs were helping to strengthen India’s presence in space.  Modi said the achievements demonstrated the “limitless” potential of India’s youth and credited government reforms for creating an environment that encouraged innovation and risk-taking.

He also pointed to the inauguration of a major oil refinery in Rajasthan, the country’s third semiconductor plant and the launch of what he described as the world’s longest and most powerful green hydrogen train. He said these projects reflected the work of scientists, engineers, entrepreneurs and workers contributing to the country’s development.

Turning to the global economy,  Modi said conflicts in West Asia had disrupted international supply chains for fuel, fertilisers and chemicals, posing challenges for energy-importing nations. Despite those pressures, he said India’s economy had recorded 7.7 percent growth, which he described as evidence of the country’s resilience.

The prime minister urged lawmakers across party lines to ensure constructive and fact-based debates during the session. He said Parliament should function without disruption, arguing that “strong facts and logic” were enough to make a compelling case.

He concluded by calling on members to engage in meaningful discussions while respecting differing views, saying calm and reasoned debate was essential for the country’s progress.
