A first-year Biotechnology student was seriously injured after he was allegedly stabbed by his roommate during a late-night dispute at Chandigarh University in Mohali on Tuesday. The incident occurred around 11.30 pm at Zakir-B hostel, prompting students to gather and raise slogans against the university management.

According to the police, the injured student, Aditya, is from Bokaro district in Jharkhand and lives in Room No. 1022. The accused, Amandeep, allegedly switched off the ceiling fan while it was running. When Aditya, who was feeling hot, asked him to turn it back on, an argument broke out between the roommates and allegedly escalated into a knife attack.

The incident led to a large gathering of students outside the hostel, creating tension on campus.

To control the situation, the police deployed three teams comprising three SPs, two DSPs and 11 SHOs. The police brought the situation under control within around 15 minutes of reaching the spot. Officers counselled the students and dispersed the gathering, sending them back to their hostels by around 1.30 am.

Police teams remained deployed in the area until approximately 4 am on Wednesday to patrol the locality and monitor the situation. The campus was later reported to be peaceful.

The police recorded Aditya’s statement and registered a case against Amandeep under Sections 115(2), 118(3) and 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The accused is reportedly absconding, while Aditya is undergoing treatment at a nearby private hospital. The investigation is underway.
