Economic Offences Wing probing Rs 1.07-crore property fraud; other financial transaction complaints surface

The Economic Offences Wing-1 of the Panchkula police has secured two-day police remand of Kapil Chawla, arrested in an alleged Rs 1.07-crore fraud case related to the sale of a house in Sector 26 here.

Chawla was arrested on September 17 during the investigation. According to the complaint, the complainant had entered into an agreement to purchase the house from Ram Prakash Chawla for Rs 5.25 crore on December 18, 2025, and paid Rs 1 crore through banking channels and Rs 7 lakh in cash.

The complainant alleged that he was assured that the property was free from disputes and other claims and that no prior agreement had been entered into with any other person.

He later learnt that an earlier agreement for the same property had allegedly been executed with Mukesh Kumar Goel on January 5, 2024, and that a dispute over the property was pending in court.

Economic Offences Wing-1 in-charge Tajinder Pal Singh said the police examined property documents, other records and the complainant’s statements during the investigation. The alleged concealment of material facts before receipt of the money was also being examined, he said.

Panchkula DCP IPS Aditi Singh said complaints relating to financial transaction fraud had also previously been received against the accused.

During the two-day remand, the police will investigate the role of Ram Prakash Chawla, father of the accused, and take further action regarding his arrest, if required.

The police will also investigate the money trail and properties allegedly acquired through the fraud.
