More than 80 participants – including doctors, postgraduate students, research scholars and faculty members – were trained by PGIMER experts in advanced DNA sequencing techniques during a workshop held in Chandigarh on Wednesday. The Department of Haematology of PGIMER organised the training session on Sanger sequencing, an advanced genetic diagnostic tool, alongside  the zonal round of the Indian Society of Haematology’s National Quiz.

The event was supported by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Government of India, under its Scientific Social Responsibility (SSR) initiative. Faculty members from AIIMS Rishikesh, AIIMS Bathinda, Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Mullanpur, and Ambala Civil Hospital also contributed to the deliberations, sharing insights on how molecular methods are advancing patient care and medical research.

In the era of precision medicine, genetic diagnosis is playing a critical role in ensuring accurate detection, guiding treatment choices, and predicting outcomes.

The ISHBT National Haematology Quiz saw spirited participation from institutes across north India, including Sher-e-Kashmir Institute, Srinagar, AIIMS Rishikesh, PGIMER Chandigarh, AIIMS Bathinda, and MMIMSR, Solan. AIIMS Rishikesh emerged as the winner, while PGIMER Chandigarh secured the runners-up position. The Organisers said the workshop and quiz not only foster academic collaboration but also encourage the next generation of haematologists and pathologists to develop critical thinking, teamwork and innovation.
